Horticulturist
We are currently looking to hire new team members to join us for the Spring to Fall 2026 season. This position is offered either part or full time April 1st - December 15th, with potential for some part time through the rest of the winter months and could continue into the 2027 season.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years of professional gardening experience
- A well rounded foundation of plant knowledge required
- Knowledge of IPM and/or irrigation systems is preferred
- PHS Tree Tender Certified is a plus
- Must be 21+ years of age or older with a valid PA driver's license
- Ability to do physical activity on a daily basis, must be able to lift 50 pounds, must be able to tolerate long periods of standing, bending, lifting, walking, manual labor, and must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Our ideal candidate is someone who is driven, responsible, reliable, and interested in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, and botany/taxonomy.
FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the overall maintenance of garden areas - including planting, transplanting, pruning, weeding, watering, tilling, and mulching
Understand garden layout and installation plans for garden spaces, window boxes, planters, raised bed designs
Plant a variety of ornamental annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees
Condition and prepare garden beds, amending soil, tilling, and hand turning
Knowledge of native vs exotic vs invasive species is a must!
Support existing annual and perennial beds throughout the gardens
Install and care for new perennial gardens as well as renovate existing landscapes; plant a variety of ornamental annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees
Demonstrate proper and safe operation of basic landscape tools, such as power tools, small machinery, and vehicles. Excellent safety practices are a must!
SUPPORTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment
- Promote and apply collaborative teamwork skills, including excellent communication and customer service; notify supervisory team promptly of any problems or unusual matters of significance
- Comply with the organization’s policies and procedures, use sustainable practices whenever possible
COMPENSATION:
$20.00-24.00/hour (depending on experience) - 1099 Employment
SCHEDULE:
4-5 days per week are usually 6-8 hour days. Hours are subject to season, weather, and clients' needs.
